2nd Semester Project

The purpose of this project has been to design and understand design alternatives, which has given us the possibility to create
concepts, directed at a target group. We have designed different alternatives to solve the overall topic, which is: “Food and Sustainability”.

We began by researching different problem areas, and started to develop a concept, which had to be web-based, based on the problems regarding the impact of food production and consumer
trends. Hence, we started to research different target groups and created different personas to design the alternatives towards.

The concept should inform and help the user regarding
cultivation of crops in an urban environment. The user should furthermore have the possibility of ordering seeds to cultivate, and other gardening tools.

Background

For this project we have worked with food and sustainability to encourage people to have their own garden and produce their own vegetables to be more sustainable.

The solution had to be webbased and include different design alternatives. Through different iterations we chose one alternative to develop further and this will be presented here.

Concept

For this prototype we focused on three parts which was essential for design to meet the requirements:

  • Motivate the users to grow vegetables in an urban environment
  • Easy access to seeds and materials to do Urban Gardening
  • Create opportunities to do Urban Gardening through overview, instructions and planning.

Results

Through an iterative design process, we have designed a concept based on a target group. The concept encouraged the users to be more sustainable through trends and information. We tried to make the users return to the application on a regular basis and make them see their progress with their crops.
